The E-cigarette user dictionary

A
A Cone
= A Cover for the connections of the atomizer and the battery, so it all blends nicely together and gives a streamlined look.
Analogue
 = a real tobacco cigarette
Annealing = in metallurgy and materials science, is a heat treatment wherein a material is altered, causing changes in its properties such as hardness and ductility. It is a process that produces conditions by heating to above the critical temperature, maintaining a suitable temperature, and then cooling.
This with E-cigs is a process often used to burn off the manufacturing coating on coils and steel mesh
Atty = Atomiser, which is a heating coil wrapped around a wick, which is then fed with e-liquid, and when heated at the right temperature by a suitable voltage battery, and inhaled, produces vapour.
The atty screws onto a suitable battery and a filled cartridge is then inserted into the atty. The filler inside the cartridge pushes into the atomizer bridge and the bridge sucks up the juice. When the bridge is moist enough, it feeds the wick with juice.
Automatic Battery = The Automatic battery has no button, but has an internal sensor instead, which activates when you inhale.
They give you the natural feeling of smoking a cigarette.
Some Automatic batteries have a sound sensor which activates when it hears a sound. And other Automatic batteries work by air pressure.
They require some attention to the sensor hole which is located inside the threaded battery contact where the atomiser/ cartomizer screws on. This hole tends to get e-liquid in it caused by  liquid leakage from overfilling. Automatic batteries need this area cleaned regularly. Failure to keep liquid out of the hole could cause battery failure or sensor damage.

B
Batt- battery
Battery unit = a computer chip and a little silicone flap connected to the contacts that activate it.
The computer chip also shuts down the battery if you have taken a draw longer than10 seconds (With most, though there are other variations as well) or if the voltage is low and it needs recharging.

C
Cig-a-like= a cigarette look alike
Carto
= Cartomiser, This is mainly a heating element coil that is wrapped around a wick similar to a three piece system, but instead, there is filler wrapped around a center hollow tube allowing air flow. They can be filled with e – liquid by removing the mouth cap, and dripping liquid into it whilst it is on an angle. Do not let liquid go down the center.
The three piece system however is filled by dripping e-juice into a cartridge.
Cartridge = A cartridge is filled with special (cotton wool like) fluff , which can withstand high temperatures and does not burn under heated atomized conditions, and is fairly simple to use
Coil = Wire wrapped around a wick, to enableto  the E-liquid, to heat up and vaporize. most commonly used coil is Nichrome, and kanthal, and available in various resistances.
Constant Vaping = The time that you are actually holding the button down on the battery and vape
Clearo = Clearomiser. Many in the electronic cigarette industry choose to define clearomisers as transparent cartomisers, even though they’re not always built the same way. A common cartomizer is made up of a metal or hard plastic casing, polyfill filling and the atomizer. The clearomiser, on the other hand is usually made of thin, very easily breakable plastic, in order to be transparent. Also most clearomisers don’t have polyfill filling, as it would make it hard for vapers to estimate how much e-liquid they have left. Instead they have a wick.

D
Display= Displays are often used in Variavle voltage/ Variable wattage Devices.
Depending on the device you’re using,  they will tell you how much battery power there is left in your battery, what the ohmage of your atomiser is, how high you’ve got the voltage/ wattage set to. The displays can be either LED, or OLED, again depending on your device
Drip Tip = a mouth piece for your device, and  is generally used with an atomizer, You simply use it in place of a cartridge. It doesn’t matter which type of atomizer you use.The drip tip is made to fit specific models, so buy one to fit yours. To use a drip tip take off the cartridge from your atomizer. Put the drip tip in place. You can Drip E-Liquid directly on toyour atomiser or choose to drip it in your drip tip

E
E-cig = short for Electronic cigarette
E-Liquid/ E-juice = The liquid used in Electronic Cigarettes, consisting of a mix of PG, VG, nicotine, and flavour

The Kick  is a simple way to enjoy variable voltage using an existing mod. The Kick is not an electronic cigarette, but rather an additional module that allows any 18650 based mechanical switch mod to function as a variable voltage, or more precisely a variable wattage electronic cigarette. Simply replace an existing 18650 battery with an 18500 or 18490 battery topped off by the Kick and begin enjoying all the vapour variable voltage has to offer!”

L
LED =
Light-emitting diode, a semiconductor diode that glows when a voltage is applied.
Application in Electronic cigarettes, can be an LED display, or button

Lithium-ion battery = (sometimes Li-ion battery or LIB) is a member of a family of rechargeable battery types in which lithium ions move from the negative electrode to the positive electrode during discharge, and back when charging. Li-ion batteries use an intercalated lithium compound as the electrode material, compared to the metallic lithium used in the non-rechargeable lithium battery.

M
mAh
= milliampere per hourThis refers to how many puffs you can take before the battery needs to be recharged.Slender batteries (like cig-a-likes) range from 90 to 280 mAh.
Again, the mAh determines how long it will last inbetween charges.
Man Batt = manual battery, has a button that you press to activate vapour production. You press the button to smoke it. It could feel unusual, and may not feel like an analogue cigarette, but you will get used to this, also you can hold the button down longer than inhaling to get more vapour production,. Also known as PV (personal Vaporizer).
mg = milligram
Mini = an e-cig generally longer than 110cm, larger in diameter than a super mini.
ml = milliliter
Mesh= woven metal wired sheet, used to make a metal wick
Mixer =  A person that mixes their own E-liquid
Mod = often refers to variable voltage/ variable wattage device, or a clearomiser atomiser where you can make your own coil and wick,  as you can change/ adjust the device to your own liking
Modder = A Person that likes to build their own

N
Nic = Nicotine
Nic base = A nicotine base, used to mix your own E-liquid, this can come in PG, VG or a PG/VG mix
NRT = Nicotine Replacement Therapy, Attempt to stop smoking in aid of Nicotine Replacement Products.
NRP = Nicotine Replacement Products, EG Gums, patches, Lossengers etc

O
Ohm = A measure of electrical resistance. A lower number indicates lower resistance and therefore faster heating. The Ohm window is 1.2-1.9 Ohms.
OLED =  (a self-luminous diode (it glows when an electrical field is applied to the electrodes) that does not require backlighting or diffusers)
Application in Electronic cigarettes: displays

P
Pen Style= an e-cig generally longer than 150cm, looks like a pen.
PG = Propylene Glycol ( a base liquid used in E-liquid)
PV = Personal Vaporiseris another name for the Electronic Cigarette
Pyrex = (trademarked as PYREX) is a brand which was introduced by Corning Incorporated in 1915 for a line of clear, low-thermal-expansion borosilicate glass used for laboratory glassware and kitchenware.
Corning no longer manufactures or markets Pyrex-branded borosilicate glass kitchenware and bakeware in the US, but Pyrex borosilicate products are still manufactured under license by various companies. World Kitchen, LLC, which was spun off from Corning in 1998, licensed the Pyrex brand for their own line of kitchenware products—differentiated by their use of clear tempered soda-lime glass instead of borosilicate.

Q

R
RMS = Root Mean Square.  RMS is a tool which allows us to use the DC power equations, namely: P=IV=I*I/R, with AC waveforms, and still have everything work out.  It’s calculated by taking one cycle of a periodic waveform and squaring it, and finding the square root of the are a under the curve.  RMS is calculated differently for each periodic waveform

S

W
Wick = The wick in an electronic cigarette are commonly Silica wicks, other veriaties, such as steel mesh wicks and fiberglass etc are also used.
The wick together with the coil form the atomiser
, which is then fed with juice (e-liquid), and when heated at the right temperature by a suitable voltage battery, and inhaled, produces vapour.
The atomiser screws onto a suitable battery and a filled cartridge is then inserted into the atomiser. The filler inside the cartridge pushes into the atomizer bridge and the bridge sucks up the juice. When the bridge is moist enough, it feeds the wick with juice.
